Local Humanitarian Projects

The purpose of humanitarian work in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is to 1) relieve suffering, 2) foster self-reliance, and 3) provide opportunities for service.

  • Charity and Caring for the Needy—We find purpose in following Christ’s example of kindness, generosity, and service to the poor and needy. Love must be our motive. (Matthew 25:35–40)
  • Agency and Talent—All people can grow, act to solve problems, and gain knowledge and skills. (D&C 58:27–28)
  • Work—Work is an essential component in God’s plan for temporal and spiritual salvation. (2 Nephi
    25:23)
