The purpose of humanitarian work in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is to 1) relieve suffering, 2) foster self-reliance, and 3) provide opportunities for service.
- Charity and Caring for the Needy—We find purpose in following Christ’s example of kindness, generosity, and service to the poor and needy. Love must be our motive. (Matthew 25:35–40)
- Agency and Talent—All people can grow, act to solve problems, and gain knowledge and skills. (D&C 58:27–28)
- Work—Work is an essential component in God’s plan for temporal and spiritual salvation. (2 Nephi
25:23)
All requests for humanitarian assistance must come from local church leaders. If you are a community non-profit organization and would like to receive assistance, please contact your local bishop or branch president.
